BMWs are built (and exported to other countries) mainly from Germany, South Africa and USA. These factories follow closely to the high quality standards of BMW.
There are ALSO smaller factories around the world that build BMWs to supply that country ALONE.
The reason for this is that the local governments impose high import tax on fully-imported cars - but not on locally assembled versions (because it gives the local people jobs and help drive local economy by using locally sourced parts).
In cases like this (which I believe might be the case in India), you will find a higher percentage of local content in the cars (such as battery, seat leather and stuffing, mats, tires, and specs difference...etc. The "localization" (use of locally sourced components) can push up to 50% or more of the car's content.
If there's any diffference in quality, it's caused by the "localization" of the cars - which can be noticeable even though the cars may look the same externally.
I believe BMW is either looking to start or have started building BMWs in China to supply the market there too!

BMW is actually Bayerische Motoren Werke (Bavarian Motor Works). They are a German company. They do own the MINI brand and factory, however, and those cars are built in England. Some of the other BMW vehicles are also built in factories outside of Germany as well.

Hello,
BMW will maintain strict standards in quality and making of the vehicle in any part of the world. But the labour may be cheap in India but they are skilled workers.
Technicaly speaking BMW will not allow a single car out of its factory unless otherwise it has passed all the tests. But some of the tests may vary from country.
I request to whom so ever answered the question .please dont come to a conclusion that Indian labour is not skilled one.Otherwise how come the world leading car manufacturers like ford,Renault,BMW had plants in Chennai(madras) India to make their cars.

Dont let others fool you.
Quality is the main issue.
On one hand you have the German vehicle being built by skilled, trained and educated workers. Costs more because they get paid more.
On the other hand you have the Indian made version. Nothing against the Indian people-but the people working in these factories are less educated and not skilled. Cheap workers. You get what you pay for. They pay these people very little. What do you think you will get in return?
