Cut and paste or Copy and paste are two functions that let you take an object from one Windows application and put it into another. For example, if you highlight this paragraph, you can copy it and paste it into a Word document.

To copy an object, highlight it, then hit ctrl-c. Go to the application in which you want to paste it, and hit ctrl-v.

If you want to cut an object, that's just like copying, except that the object will no longer be in its original location. You can only do this if you have permission to remove the object from its original location. Cut is Ctrl-X. Then you hit Ctrl-V to paste somewhere else.

Hope this helps.

"Cutting" means you take a piece of data on your screen (usually text) and remove it from the screen and put it in memory. You then go to another location, and select "Paste". What paste does is it takes that text out of memory and places it back on the screen in the new location.

You can actually use this for a lot of different things. The two most common uses are for moving text around in a document (like in the example above) and moving files around to different folders/locations in your computer. (To move a file, right-click it and select "cut", then go to the new place you want it, right-click and hit "paste")

Its useful for moving information around.
=)
Ctrl + C = Copy
Ctrl + X = Cut
Ctrl + V = Paste
Move your mouse over something in word, or notepad, click, and hold down the left mouse button and move, and the text should become highlighted. Press on your keyboard Ctrl + C, and then Ctrl + V
