I just have USB 1.1 on my computer and my flash drive did work there at first but at a reduced rate of course. I also have a Firewire Interface that is wired to other ports. I thought I'd gain some speed by getting the adapters to adapt the Firewire port to USB and using the Firewire port for my USB Flash drive. This I did, but when I plugged in my flash drive it wouldn't work. In fact by the time I got done trying to make it work, (about 5 minutes), I discovered the Flash drive was very Hot, almost too hot to handle. Yes, It seems to be Fried. It no longer works in the USB Port. The light blinks, but it is no longer recognized.
Question, What did I do wrong? Aren't I supposed to be able to hook up a USB Flash drive directily to a Firewire port? Any help sincerely appreciated. Thanks!

USB and Firewire are completely different connections, different voltages, different wire configurations, and different communication protocols, they are not interchangeable.
My guess is you hooked the firewire power connection to the flash drive's data connection and completely fried your flash drive into oblivion.
To use a USB 2 device through a firewire port you need a go-between USB 2 hub that is designed to plug into a firewire port. I've found ones that go the other way around but not many like you would need, so I'd suggest just having someone install some new USB 2 ports in your computer, they are pretty cheap (probably cheaper than your flash drive was).

They are different devices with different voltage, what you are doing is not dangerous, but simply stupid (and I dont meant to be rude).
Your pen is now as good as gone I would imagine.
