I think president bashing really took off with the Clinton presidency. Presidents before Clinton were guilty of womanizing, but the office of the presidency was respected enough not to make a huge issue of it.
The Republicans were out to get Clinton from the start and when the Monica thing happened, they started a precedent of president bashing. I doubt that it will ever end now. It's just become a political game. Tit for Tat.

There always should be a level of respect for the person in that office....I'm as anticlinton as anyone can be but I didn't have the frothing hatred for the man like I'm seeing with the libs and media towards President Bush. the condition of their hearts is very evident.

The office deserves respect. It receives far too much, IMO. We treat the President as if he were the living embodiment of our nation, instead of what he nearly always is--a guy doing a job.
The individuals holding office should get the respect each person believes they deserve.

The office demands respect by virtue of the position. The person requires respect by virtue of his holding the office. He retains it by virtue of his actions.

There is no requirement.
If you think this through to the end logically, you will come to the conclusion that is is necessary to keep a free republic.
Those who do not show at least a modicum of respect either have not thought it through, or are willing to sacrifice it.
Keep this in mind as you listen.

i think of that once you're making it to workplace, you're able to get carry of appreciate. maybe not an staggering quantity of appreciate, yet you're able to be taken care of decently. God--i might hate to be able like that--I felt terrible for Bush. His call became into dragged for the time of the dirt--like many presidents till now him whose 'reign' became into for the time of a complicated time. and human beings seem to think of the president has this infinite power--that each thing happens as a effect of his movements, and that he on my own has the flexibility to make huge differences. And if we don't see those differences, it -could- be his fault. This concept finally ends up in greater disrespect while their hopes are not met--besides the incontrovertible fact that it is unrealistic to anticipate that the president, on my own, can restoration this united states of america's issues. EDIT: genuine--i don't think of he could have been elected a 2d term, and we could continually have pulled the troops -years- in the past. i don't help forcing our subculture on those of others; it is smug to anticipate we immediately comprehend a thank you to run others' international places greater effective than they do. yet I do have faith he became into what we wanted for the 1st 6 months to a 365 days after 9/11. and that i think i might quite him be elected than Kerry.
