ok i originally put 432*pi, but that is because i can't add 180 + 72, i think i actually added 180 twice
or is it the "not drawn to scale" that you don't understand", that means you can't put a ruler to it and measure it

Are you asking what "Not drawn to scale" means? It could mean that the measurement is not the same as the actual size of the cylinder. For example, the cylinder could be smaller, or even larger than the actual picture displayed on the word problem. If the pic has radius of 6 in and 15 in height, it could not be a true representation of the correct size of the cilinder. Good luck with your math...you are dealing with higher thinking math...keep up the good work!

Add:
1. Two 6-inch-radius circles
2. The circumferences of a stack of infinitely thin 6-inch-radius circles 15 inches high.
1. 2*pi*r^2 = 2*pi*6^2 = 72 pi
2. pi*d*h = 2*r*pi*h = 2 * 6 * pi * 15 = 180 pi
Add 'em up... 252 pi.
The comment at the bottom means your teacher didn't draw a cylinder with the same proportions of an actual 6-inch-radius by 15-inch-high cylinder.

ok
surface area of a cylinder is:
2*pi*r*(r+h)
so that would be
2*pi*6*(6+15) = 12*21*pi = 252*pi. that's your answer
Not drawn to scale means that if you actually measure the drawing in the question, it will not be 6 or 15 inches..that is, the lengths are given as an assumption only.

Area will be the sum of both ends and the surrounding side.
One end A= Pi x r^2
Side A = 2 Pi x r x h
Not drawn to scale just means that the picture shown is not exacting in proportion to the measurements they are telling you. It is irrelevent to the question.
Total area = 2(Pi x r^2 ) +2(Pi x r x h)
= 2Pi (r^2 +r + h)
For this problem, substitute 6 and 15 for r and h
= 2 Pi (36 +6 +15)
= 104 Pi square inches

OK.
A cyclinder is a rectangle and 2 circles.
Area of the circle = 36*pi sq.inches.
Area of rectangle = diameter of circle * height
= 12*pi*15 sq.inches.
Total area = 252*pi sq inches (thats 180+36+36)
"Not drawn to scale" means "Not drawn to scale."

The dimensions should be correct, if not drawn to scale. By definition a cyliner has the same diameter top and bottom.
So the area of the circle is π r² There are 2 circles, so multiply by 2. 2 π r ²
For the area of the side of the cylinder is circumference
π * D* h. D =2π r.
2 π r² + 2π r h.
Simplified 2π r (r + h)
114 π sq inches. I see a small addition error.

"Not drawn to scale" means that the proportions
of the drawing may not match the measurements given, it is just a general picture to help you visualize the problem.
