I am of the belief that our nation must rid itself of affirmative action. We must progress not through special treatment but by the very talent and willingness to endure to achieve in our society. We cannot give free rides to those who are not on par with others. If you want something then fight for it. Don't expect that what you desire shall be handed to you. Our nation was founded by doers, so to must we go forth and do. Learn the skill you'll need to achieve greatness. Take the time to study and not simply watch tv or listen to music. In short, step up to the plate and get to it! Achievements don't happen by themselves...

I agree with you although the perspective that affirmative action should not exist may rub many people the wrong way. Any time you base something on the color of ones skin you are getting into dangerous territory. If someone is more qualified then yourself then they get the job, school, etc.

You'll often hear people saying that they want civil rights for all but that's not what they want. What they want is an upper hand to get ahead of everyone else (shortcut). When I say "they" please understand that I mean anyone who tries to tell others about racial equality and peace while always focusing on the skin color difference. Its a lot like do as I say not as I do.

Affirmative action in regard to what, exactly? Outreach programs for urban minority neighborhoods produce positive results, and they are low-cost initiatives. Affirmative action measures for graduate school acceptance considerations ultimately injure those who are admitted and those who are not.

Please be more specific with the strain of affirmative action to which you refer.

edit: Because you don't seem interested in clarifying your question, I will attempt to address the issue on the basis of -- oh, I don't know, let's say "legal fairness."

First, many on here have used the phrase "affirmative action laws." I am not aware of any such laws, only policies at universities, government institutions, and corporations. Any laws that would promote one race over another is facially unconstitutional per the 14th Amendment.

The unformed gelatin that is your question (i.e., rant) makes several references to achievement. So, here's my question to you: given your position, what are YOU willing to do to achieve the "greatness" that you desire? You want affirmative action initiatives rolled back, but is this the limit of your fight? A Y! Answers question (that, in actuality, wasn't a question)? You may have a valid complaint, but what role are you going to play in it? Given that you didn't bother to even clarify your question, I can't imagine you'll be doing much, really.

Sorry.

You are very ignorant. Affirmative action, or at least that which would benefit my own people (the only kind people worry about), is null and void.

Most states have banned it or made the criteria so outrageous that it is not necesssary.

The generation that benefitted from it the most was already quite qualified to begin with...

If corporations and institutions had hired/accepted black people in the first place there would be no need for it in the second place.

My grandfather went to Columbia before he left for Europe in World War II, but he had to go all the way to New York because no schools here would accept him.

And he could only do that because he was given the money to do so..a lot of A-A was about money.

Your BS comment about not watching TV or listening to music is a lie. I graduated from high school early and went to college. I don't do that and neither does any African American person I know. Now, just because you do that and your friends don't make the assumption of my people.

My mother has two masters degrees and a Ph. D., she taught for years (much more than most school administrators) and had a record of turning schools around and won teaching awards and she couldn't even get promoted to a high school rather than an elementary school principal. She sadly left and became a consultant.

My dad is vice president and his president is the biggest moron on earth.

Why are they having trouble? THE OTHER AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, you know, the good ol' boys stuff?

Are you against that one too?

Don't ever question my people's qualifications. You don't know our history or the current BS going on.

Whatever our problems are you have no solutions for so you are part of the problem.

You are just some guy on Y! Answers not helping or a policy maker.

Go play with your Xbox or whatever YOU do.

well, in what has become ever so apparent of liberal policy, affirmative action has become a joke and is totally off course from whence it began...the attempt at leveling the playing field which, despite what liberals will tell you, happens all by itself through perseverance and hard work. the trouble is, those who 'qualify' for this program are almost never up to snuff in terms of qualifications, achievements, grit or determination and have to be 'helped' with the result being mediocrity of the highest order and the spawning of the victicrat mentality.

Free hand outs keep people dependent. Change never happens when you are allowed to sit on the couch all day and get paid by the government to do it.

Affirmative Action is unfair. I would benefit from it because of my heritage but I don't agree with it. It makes us have lower quality students, employee's etc. It brings us all down.

I think it's time for affirmative action to be taken off the books. There are laws in place to punish discrimination, so why add the onus of affirmative action? Of course it would help if they would also remove the color designation on applications... maybe even leave off names, just have phone numbers.

Affirmative Action was needed once upon a time.. but I now feel we have evolved to the point that the only way to move forward is to do away with it... again.. much like separate but equal.. it was needed for a while... but there comes a time you have to move on.

affirmative action should have been done away with long ago. Most people agree with that, even minorities.

Racists want to do away with affirmative action for one reason only: it helps creat a level playing field where they aren't given an unfair advantage--and since they are losers, they cant handle that. end o fstory.
