6 year olds??? Yikes!! May I ask what country/state this is in? With Shrek 1 and 2 as a backdrop, I'd say that it's probably a tad inappropriate for children that young. As you said, crude humor is a big factor in the movies, and I'm sure having enough success to put out a 3rd part means they haven't changed their outline in this installment.
Good luck!
I agree with the below! Since when is caring enough about what your child's takes in "over protective"? It was a simple movie question. Obviously, this is said by folks with no children or the kind that think letting them watch horror movies is just fine, because, after all, they have to see it at SOME point. Give me a break. I wish more parents were as concerned as the Asker about their kids.

I don't know what trailer you're talking about. Maybe it was a spoof trailer that a tv show made up (like something SNL or MadTV would do). I like the Shrek movies. What do you consider crude humor? I found that much of the humor was done very well so that it goes over the kids heads, but the parents watching it get to smile at the joke. I think that it's good that filmmakers can make a family movie---not a kids movie, not an adult movie, but one that they can all enjoy.
How do you feel about Disney movies?? I mean all the damsels in distress (sleeping beauty, cinderella, etc--can't the daughters have a character to look up to?) , violence (Hercules, Mulan, etc), and lord only knows what else.
Just out of curiosity, what do you let your kids watch? And how do you handle it when your children see transgender people in the real world and they ask you about them? I'm not telling you how to parent and I'm not up on a soapbox, but there are a lot of things in this world (out in real life, and on the news) that are a lot worse than worrying about crude humor.

Even if there were transvesties in the film, your child probably wouldn't understand the suggestive humor. No offence but some of the jokes have material the kid won't understand for another 4-5 years. Actually, the ugly stepsister is really just a woman with too many masculine traits.

I'm sure it's just like the rest of the Shrek movies. There will be some more suggestive stuff, but it all flies over the kids heads and is designed for the adults to enjoy without too much notice being taken by the young demographic. Bottom line, I'm sure it's ok, at least in my opinion. If anything I have a problem with Shrek III because they should've stopped after one movie. It just looks stupid and as soon as you see a little Shrek you know it's all over.

The movie has some cute and cuddly characters, but none of the Shrek movies are good for audiences under 13. Too much crude humor and adult in-jokes for children to process. Some of it will go over there heads, but why expose them to it if you don't have to. I don't like any of the Shrek movies, not because they're not funny, but because they have been geared towards the wrong age group. That's why so many adults like the movie, because it's basically an adult cartoon.

I'm not a parent yet so I can't tell you want you feel is right for your kids. But in my opinion Shrek isn't as bad as the other things I've seen on T.V. At times all of the cartoons on T.V. show some kind of crude humor and even a little nudity. Like spongbob, naruto, power rangers, and so on. I wouldn't be so worried about it. Your kids are smart enough to know what right and wrong right? :)

These jokes are designed to go over kid's heads. If you want to protect your kids from all such cloaked messages, then keep them away from ALL movies and television programs. Looney Tunes and Disney are no exceptions. You should also not read nursery rhymes and fairy tales to your kids. The roots of their meanings are loaded with sex and disease.
Or, you can enjoy these things with your kids. You enjoy the jokes you understand, and the kids enjoy the jokes they understand.

I Think you are right. Protecting your childs mind at such a young age is crutial. It's like a pot of clay and negative input may have a great effect on him. Have you gone to the school about this? And to the girl who thinks parents are stupid and overprotected, I feel sorry for your mother!

wow, you have OPPS. Over Protective Parent Syndrome. i think you shouldn't get your pantyhose in a bunch. you think some little three year old is gonna become a transvestite just by watching a WONDERFUL movie that is Shrek the third. you are DEFINITELY over reacting. Kids at that age dont even know what a transvestite is. In shrek 2 they say "a.ss"! and what is it rated? like G! G as in GOOD! and not OVER PROTECTIVE! you are so over protective! my mom was like that but since im smart i understand that she was just "worried" about me But she NEVER worried about some stupid childish film which is really good! so go shave you legs and wear a skirt instead of those camel toe pants and have some fun, or else life will always be one big fearful ride for you..
i tell it like it is! and if you dont like the truth go ask someone else who will just LIE!
