A fast, powerful car in the hands of a 16 year old spells near instant speeding ticket, coupled with insurance rates that run to 4 figures - every 6 months.

Save your money, and go get a minivan with a good set of airbags. It's probably been better cared for and driven much more saner than your average sports car, so it'll last you a little while without falling apart under you when you hit that first pothole. And the added metal will help protect you when you crash it.

And you will....

THEN - and ONLY THEN - once you've had a few years of experience, and have learned to drive safely and sanely (because at 16, you have only the barest notion of how to do that) you can think about moving up to something a little more sporty. Even so, if you were my kid, you'd probably be driving something with a 4 cylinder and not much performance - otherwise, you'd be paying your own insurance bills, which would mean that the car would be sitting in the driveway most of the time, I'm guessing.

Young man I would stay away from fast cars, bad gas mileage, and insurance is expensive.
