If you don't have system restore points it won't restore.

If you have a problem, like accidently downloaded some application and/or some bad drivers that installed and you didn't log on yet (going in using USER NAME and PASSWORD or continuing after the welcome screen), Restart your computer and while it is starting( before the Windows logo appears) press F-8 repeatedly until you see advanced options.

Go to "Last Known Configuration.." Click and try restarting your computer from there.

If you can't start successfully, then place your Computer XP CD Recovery Disk in and Start with the CD. Then when it appears for Pressing R to repair it if you know about recovery commands. (Recovery Console NOT ASR)

If it is necessary and you JUST CAN'T Start your computer, there are TWO ways to repair your installation of Windows XP.

1. A clean Install IF you don't have data to lose following the instructions and activating it again. OR

2. Re-install your Windows XP keeping your files and folders. The Windows operating system is installed and you keeps valuable data of yours.

Either way, it takes around 45 minutes to do these procedures and you have to activate it again by your Windows instructions or if you can't activate simply by part two of these instructions, calling Microsoft with the phone number provided during the CD installation.

I hope you have antivirus software which viruses are by the hundreds of thousands on the Internet.

If all of this is driving you nuts, take it to a certified technician to resolve your issues.

your system will need to boot from the cd drive,
put your Xp cd rom into your drive, reboot your system, let your xp disk boot the system, as though it was going to install xp,

when it finds your xp, it will ask you do you want to install into same directory, or repair, press R on your keyboard for repair and it will start the repair process

if you have not got a copy of a legal windows xp then you will have to buy one sorry

Or you could move over to linux windows, which is better than MS windows, do some research into linux

if you would like to try it out go to the web link below

Well you need to have system restore enabled for it to work. To enable it right click your my computer icon and click the system restore tab. There is a little check box there to enable or disable it. Later if you run into problems and need to use it, it will restore your computer to an early save point when everything was running smoothly.

Consider this an excellent time to recognize that
your operating system is defective. I recommend replacing
it with one of:

http://fedora.redhat.com
http://www.opensuse.org
http://www.debian.org
http://www.ubuntu.org
http://www.slackware.org
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.opensolaris.org

Any of these will be more reliable, less susceptible to
viri, uses your hardware more efficiently, and they're
all free.
