For years, no one other than Bill Murray, 'Scarlett Johannson' and Sofia Coppola knew what Bob whispered to Charlotte in the final scene, but according to BBC2's "The Culture Show" (2004) in October 2006, where special sound equipment was used to make the conversation audible, Bob most likely said: "I love you. Don't forget to always tell the truth."

Robin Williams is not in Lost in Translation. You're thinking of Bill Murray. And it wasn't Scarlett whispering in his ear. He whispered in hers.

One it was Bill Murray, not Robin William's, and it was the other way around! He said "See you at the Oscars!" At least said it in the dvd extras!

this question again? According to Sophia Coppola it was an ad-libbed thing and no one really knows. If you watch the extras (I believe the "making of...") on the dvd there is a bit about that.

Personally, I think he was complaining about how he would be snubbed at the Oscars for yet another role that he deserved a best actor nomination for.

She probably whispered to Bill Murray, "Can you believe that someone is putting up the money for this pretentious worthless movie? I feel embarrassed to cash my paycheck, don't you?" He probably replied "No. It happens to me all the time. I haven't made a decent movie since "Ground Hog Day" but the checks keep coming in."
