It's not a good idea to use any kind of preparation repeatedly, whether for sleep or otherwise. "Natural" is the way to go if you can in every endeavor; unfortunately, that's not always possible but you should try to stick to that philosophy as much as you can.
Taking a medication regularly, even though over-the-counter and seemingly harmless, can lead to some problems, not the least of which is a dependency on it. Often times there will even be a warning on the box about this very thing. For example, I've read that constantly using eye drops can lead to your eyes producing less moisture on their own. Another example, using a laxative regularly can lead to a dependency on it. I think that your use of the Benadryl could create the same type of syndrome, as well as having other side effects that you aren't aware of.
This is all ironic because the reason you're using the product is because your body won't do naturally what you need it to, and then the use of a man-made solution leads to your body doing it even less.
In short, I'd stop it. You'll have some nights without good sleep until your body shakes off the effect of the Benadryl and tries to get back to a cycle of its own. Then, if you can't sleep, don't toss and turn, get up and do something. Your body will let you know when you need to lie back down. Don't worry about the clock. If you get a bad night's sleep, you'll get a better one the next night, I gaurantee it. Another tip, don't go to bed until you are ready to go to sleep withing ten minutes; that is, don't read. If you can't get to sleep within ten, get back up and do something until your body is ready.
Try not to worry about the clock. Let your body find it's own rhythm. It may be that you don't need 8 hours of sleep.

Absolutely. It not only can, but will affect your liver. You need to stop this. If you go a couple of nights without the benadryl and don't sleep too well, you will eventually get tired enough to sleep normally. Nobody ever died from not enough sleep. If you have difficulty getting to sleep, and it continues after you get off the drugs, contact your doctor. A proper diagnosis is necessary to discern the reasons behind your problem. You may have sleep apnea, or any of a dozen other sleeping disorders for which treatment may be available.

First of all, you cannot give meds to a 2 year old without doctors orders. Second of all, you need to call Child Services. She'll be charged with murder when he child doesn't wake up one morning. Use in Children: In infants and children, especially, antihistamines in overdosage may cause hallucinations, convulsions, or death. As in adults, antihistamines may diminish mental alertness in children. In the young child, particularly, they may produce excitation. Data are not available on the use of Diphenhydramine hydrochloride as a nighttime sleep-aid in children under 12 years. You really need to report this. If you know anything about a child being abused, you need to report it. If you know about abuse, and you don't report it, you are just as bad as the person doing it. If the child dies or become seriously injured while you know she is drugging him, you could be charged also. If you have proof that she is drugging a child everyday just for her satisfaction, I'm sure she won't get full custody. Get the abuse on her record and she won't get him.

You may want to see a doctor. Benadryl is supposed to relieve allergy symptoms. If you have to use it for anything else, something is seriously off. The cautions on the bottle should tell you about possible side effects.

No, benadryl is the active ingredient in Tylenol PM. Are you having problems falling asleep or staying asleep. Benadryl works great for helping you fall asleep but doesn't help you stay asleep.

Yes it is. The active ingredients will ultimately cause respiratory issues. Try Tylenol PM instead.
