Only on second computer. Main CPU is fine, installed wireless adapter for other. I can see the connection being made but when I open an browser, it tells me it can't connect. Is this a browser problem? I even ran a cable from the router to the computer, bypassing the wireless all together. The ethernet shows 'connected' but the browser still can't recognize.

Anybody have any ideas?

A few things to check:

1) Check the settings on your kid's computer. You want them to use DHCP, so it will automatically get an address and settings from the wireless hub. You could be setup to use a subnet that that the new router is not servicing.

2) Check the adapter. In your network properties, make sure the built-in adpater is enabled. Many people disable this when they have a wireless adapter. That could be why your wired connection isn't working.

3) Check the router security. Some routers can be setup to use only certain security protocols and will not accept connections from computers that don't have the correct "key". This should not be the default, but you may have changed it.

4) Check router setup. Newer routers can be setup to use newer 802.11g OR the older 802.11b wireless protocols. But you can also have it ignore older protocols. Make sure that if your kid has an older adapter, you have the router set to accept both 802.11b/g.

Good luck!

I had the same problem when I got a wireless network for my house. The main computer worked fine and then the laptop wouldn't "connect". It was the most retarded thing, but after a few hours it started working. I had to set it up, the internet connection and wireless connection to the laptop, about five times. Remove the porgram and load it back again. I stood close to the router and eventually it worked.
Then after about 6 weeks it stopped working again. I am not sure what causes the connection to act like that, but I found it very frustrating.

it's possible that it's a browser issue, since you said the main pc can go online.

check for the ip address and default gateway of both computers. wired connections only. then try to ping the gateway. if you're using xp or vista, that's START, RUN, type CMD, OK, type IPCONFIG, ENTER... then you should get your ip address and gateway. after ipconfig, type PING (default gateway numbers). if you get four replies and 0% loss on both, try pinging a website - ping www.google.com. if you can ping websites, then try try pinging again on a wireless connection this time. if you get the same results, most likely it's a browser issue. try downloading another browser. you can try firefox - www.mozilla.com
