I know this sounds odd but my question is this. I am having to move into a house where the electricity is not working currently. We want be getting it fixed for another month. The whole house needs to be rewired. We have a generator but it is very loud and sucks up a lot of gas. I have tons of candles and I will be buying other types of lighting but I was wonder what is the best thing to get. Hoping that maybe there is something out there that I don't know about... you never know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To the person speaking about it being unsanitary. Like I stated before... we have a generator.. So we will be able to run it so that we can take showers and run the toilet... We just can leave it on 24/7

I think the biggest issue is "How will you store perishibles?"
Ice chests are only good for a couple of days at best. Find a friend that has a larger motorhome and borrow it for a while or even rent one. Now you have all the ammenities like hot water, a refer etc.
Option two. Run a heavy duty extension cord from the neighbors to run the refer and a microwave.
Candles are cool for the ambiance but dangerous. I lived in the Sierras for years and the power was always going out. I used a propane lantern for light and a wood stove to cook. (Showers were an adventure!) Propane lanterns are much brighter than candles and not dirty. Candles make smoke which stains the walls over time.

Oh dear...
I ran into something like this after Hurricane Isabelle. You'll want a good charcoal grill for cooking, and there are little disposable oil lanterns that you can find at your local hardware or perhaps department stores. Meanwhile, you'll want to do as much as you can during daylight hours. And get a few good battery-powered items and fresh batteries.
The thing that will probably be the worst problem for you is water, because your pump will be powered by electricity. If you have a neighbor who doesn't mind, get used to getting buckets and jugs of water from him for the toilet and whatever else.
Good luck!

You may want to consider a Coleman lantern, either white gas or propane. They put out a lot of light when you need it. Sounds like quite an adventure!

Moving into a house that is being completely rewired is foolish and potentially dangerous (Improper lighting in a construction environment, unapproved cooking devices, unsanitary conditions). Depending on the location of the house, it may even be illegal based on the construction permit that your licensed electrician was required to obtain to do the work.
For your own safety and well-being, please reconsider your plan.

There is quite a few solar powered and wind up household items available. And you will allways have it as a back up in case of power failure. Be careful with the candles. Don't burn your house down in the first 30 days lol.

I don't know your money situation, but you could rent an RV to live in. Some of the diesel generators in RVs are as quiet as a mouse and will run longer on less fuel.
