The net is now officially 4' x 6'. Believe it or not at one time all the teams had the nets made for them rather than buying from an official supplier and it was famed goalie Jacques Plante who pointed out all the nets in the different cities were not the same size. He claimed the nets in New York and Boston were bigger because the cross bar met higher up on his back in those cities. Sure enough when they were measured he was right and the league made changes to ensure the nets would be the same size in every rink.
