...which is SO highly efficient as to actually convince some people that the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE is a "bad thing?"

You gotta love 'em.

EDIT: To "floating"--- Oh, hon! I'll pay good money to see ANY of your talking heads face-to-face with Bill Moyers! The man is intelligent, he only speaks the truth, and your pitiful parroting hate-mongers would melt like the Wicked Witch on Oz.

To Chredon: I love ya, babe, but I'm afraid you really don't understand what the Fairness Doctrine is. Which, of course, was the point of my question.

They have a FANTASTIC spin machine!

I think it's bizarre that fairness is actually being debated.

The fairness doctrine brings broadcasters back into a world holding them responsible for being broadcasters to the community.

No I do not admire the spin doctors that convince people that government has a right to tell private companies that they must put people with certain opinions on the air. There are enough choices out there, that if you do not like what is on one station you can find a station that you agree with. The fairness doctrine is anything but fair. It is just one more step towards government run media and one step away from the freedom of the press.

Given that there are so many media outlets, and that every possible point of view is represented by at least one of them, I don't see the point of all this hoopla. If the fairness doctrine prevents Faux News from ripping into Democrats, is it going to stop John Stewart from ripping into Republicans? Will it put the clamps on Olberman over at MSNBC?

Why is right-wing media so successful (Rush, Hannity, et al) and left-wing media so unsuccessful (Air America)? That's easy. Left-wing media is trying to get people to understand an issue and support their side of it. Right-wing media is trying to motivate people through promoting fear and anger.

If you make a man THINK he is thinking, he will love you. If you make a man ACTUALLY think, he will not.

Yeah, I can't wait until Michael Savage gets to counterpoint on the spot everything Bill Moyers says on PBS...
