i agree.
Americans (in general) love baseball because it reflects the average Americans outlook on life ... lazy and wasteful.
i personally prefer hockey.
baseball is boring. i have to wait for the batter to do his job while the rest of his overpaid, chubby teammates laze out on the bench. he wants to step out of the box and scratch his nutsack. and then when the batter is ready, the pitcher wants to do his twitch. and then scratch his nutsack. meanwhile, all the fielders are hoping that the ball isn't hit to him, so they can continue to laze around in the field and watch dandelions grow. then all the stupid fans throw beach balls on the field and we have to wait for just a stupid pitch. for a lowsy pitch. and then the batter wants to be picky, so he lets a perfect strike go by
hockey players do their job constantly, and play stops only if there's a penalty, a goal, or the puck leaves the rink.
baseball players need steroids to stay competitive. and all they want is more money. hockey players are so much tougher and grittier. and have class. they shake hands after the playoffs. baseball clears the benches if a pitch gets thrown too close. if you can't handle the heat, get outta the way. hockey players PURPOSELY PUT THEMSELVES IN FRONT OF A HARDENED PIECE OF FROZEN RUBBER GOING IN EXCESS OF 100 MPH to stop a shot. baseball players are wusses, who just want to work on their tan.
add - luckycharm. i AM an american. get out and away from that computer. and learn about your country and why it's going downhill. and do something about it. not just criticize. fortunately for you, you have the freedom to be an idiot. you're an American. you have the freedom to be close-minded. you have a lot of freedoms that you probably don't appreciate. you also have the freedom to be informed, smart, and polite. it's your choice if you want to take advantage of those freedoms. so far, you've shown that you've chosen not to.
i am proud to be an American. it's still the best country in the world, but it's going downhill. we are far from the "Greatest Generation" of the WWII era where a whole nation sacrificed (not just the troops ... a la food stamps, rubber/steel consumption) for the greater good. how did we get to where we are today? cuz we are getting lazier and lazier. we worship people who are fake for a living, and who play sports ( 1. Hollywood, and 2. professional athletes). what other great society in the history of the world worshipped actors and athletes? not the romans. not the enlgish empire.
i said AVERAGE American. there are still a lot of hardworking Americans. But a lower percentage (let's say 30%) of the hardworking ones are supporting a higher percentage (let's say 70%) of the workload of the fat, nasty, shallow, comfortably un-challenged remainder.
i hate the french too. (they're the worst.) and most of europe for their wussy, flip/flop policies. but i also disdain Americans who don't appreciate what they have and are too complacent to bother to do anything while it continues to slip away. you may want to remove yourself from that category. in the meantime, enjoy your couch potato Yahoo Answers while you eat your hyper sugar, obesity-inducing, Lucky Charms cereal, while watching your couch potato sport. and btw, you may wanna grow some thicker skin and take your meds, cuz you seem awfully over-reactive and jumpy.

Baseball is 10 minutes of action packed into 3 1/2 hours.
Baseball is NOT about action - it is about suspense. The tying run is on third with two outs and a great hitter at bat... Each pitch, whether it results in a play or not, is part of the drama.
Beyond that though, baseball is what America is about - celebrating the balance of the individual and the team. You have a team to help you, but when it is your turn at bat, it is a one-on-one battle.
It is also about equal opportunity. A team cannot run out of the clock - each team gets 27 outs. If you fail, it is because you didn't make the most of these opportunities.
Finally, the nature of the sport itself. In other sports, if you have the best team play the worst team, the better team will often win 90% of the time. With baseball, teams are often pretty pleased to take 2 games out of 3.
And then there are things like the what happened in 2005. The New York Yankees, who won 95 and lost 67 and were one of the top teams played 18 games against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays - they of 67 wins and 95 losses.... And the Devil Rays won 11 of the 18 games. That type of thing just doesn't happen in other sports.

"Americans (in general) love baseball because it reflects the average Americans outlook on life ... lazy and wasteful."
Nice quote loser. Are you sure you don't mean Europeans when you say this? Especially the French?
The average American work their butt off, so they can survive in this country and live happily. You must be a Canadian with all that hockey talk, eh? Australians, Americans, and Japanese have been identified as the top three hardest workers in the world. Get your facts straight before you spat off about our work ethics.
Why does everyone knock American everything? Sports, life, etc. You are so freakn jealous. DON'T WATCH BASEBALL IF YOU HATE IT and stop talking about it and get freakn life you losers. Worry about your own miserable life and go rent some more Star Wars movies, so you can keep your pathetic life busy and stop bothering us Americans with your moronic comments.
HEY YOU: I'm jumpy? You are damn right I am. I love my country and do not dump on it like you choose to do. People who are critical and do nothing about it make me sick. Every day I try to live my life to the fullest and if I want to watch baseball, hockey, football or whatever it is my freedom to do so! I take offense and do not appreciate when someone calls me lazy. I work over my scheduled 40 hours a week EVERY WEEK. I get up every morning before work and go to to they gym, I volunteer to coach kids in sports, and I play softball twice a week and you call me lazy? Screw you. Stop being so tough behind a computer and generalizing about people who you have no idea about. You started the generalization and I responded. Talk about being a little sensitive, huh? You love this country my ***. You love this country the way YOU want it. Stop worrying about what others like or worship and worry about yourself. If everyone would mind their own freakn business in this world, life would be a better place. Oh, last I checked you responded to this question, so I guess you have nothing better to do, but to be on yahoo answers yourself, you hypocrite! P.S. why don't you cruise this sports page and see how many foreigners insult Americans and you will get an idea why I responded the way I did. I stand by my country and will not put up with anyone outside who insults it, so there is your reason for my reaction.
In addition: Since you are new member since May 1 and have already answered 117 questions in 15 days, I would think you are the one who needs to remove themselves from yahoo answers and get a life bub. :)

The game ties in closely with America's history, its booms and busts, over the past 130 years. It also has an easy, leisurely pace to it that makes it as much a social time some days as it is a sport.
As for its excitement level, I think it depends on one's understanding or appreciation of the game. I like the one-on-one confrontations it provides, and the strategy that changes with each pitch.
It's too bad that you find it boring, but we're not all going to like the same sports. For me, it's soccer - I'd rather slit my wrists than submit to watching the world's most popular and boring game.

If baseball is boring to you, its because you're not paying attention to the game. Baseball is a thinking mans game. Lots of differnet situations that must be considered before, during and after each play. If you watch game closely enough, you'll always see something you've never seen before.

There is so much to baseball. Its not just throwing a ball and hitting it. It's remembering what happened the last at bat what to throw what to expect, what to do if there is a man at first and there's a bunt or a hit to the third base men. What do you do with a fast runner at second with one out with a base hit do you try to throw him out at the plate or do you cut it to second to keep the double play in affect. Its things like that that make the game great.

Baseball is the best game out there. The ultimate in precision strategy and skill. An amazing team game driven by individual matchups that isn't dictated by a stupid game clock and replays. It is pure and free. If you don't like it, you probably don't understand all the little things that are going on in the game. If you do understand it, it's full of excitement and action.
