The TV Show "Pimp My Ride" featured the resto-rodding of a beat up old Chevy with environmentally friendly materials and a hot-rodded turbocharged Diesel V8 putting out as much as 800 hp on biodiesel. They showed it drag racing a Lamborghini and winning. For normal use, they detune it to only (?) 400 hp so that it gets over 30 mpg.

Did you mean 'good for the environment'?
If so, then most of the 'greenness' of a car depends on its fuel efficiency, the type of fuel you use, and how well you maintain the car.
Muscle cars are muscle cars because they have huge engines that are usually reserved for large trucks and SUV's. These engines are, as a rule, not very fuel efficient because most of the design goes into boosting the horsepower output.
The fuel these cars need is usually high octane, hot-burning gasoline. Again, not very environmentally friendly or cheap for that matter.
Maintanence is where you might get a little more out of these cars. Most motorists don't really pay attention to maintaining their vehicles properly, resulting in loss of fuel efficiency and later to serious damage to the inner workings of their cars. Muscle car owners are generally festidious about the care and upkeep of their vehicles. There are several ways to maintain a car and adjust the compression, intake manifold, etc.. to increase fuel efficiency.

Hope that helps. From the nephew of the owner of a '68 Mercury Cyclone. Muscle cars can be a lot of fun to own, and with proper care can give you decent gas mileage, but don't expect too much. After all, that is not what they were built for. You wouldn't use a battle axe to prune a rose bush, would you?

Hybrid sports cars are being developed right now and some are already out as seen here:

There's a hybrid super coupe I've heard about that puts out like 500HP and is so light....runs about 98K to buy.
Muscle cars have their own distinct sounds and feels and aura...to make a hybrid out of them or improve their emissions would probably detract from the perception of them. Would be an interesting experiment though to see how economic and pollution-free you could make one.

Nothing wrong with having older classic cars like that-because you shouldnt be driving them everyday anyways. Thats just a cruising car-a toy. Cars like that shouldnt be used as a daily driver. Thus any negative impact on the environment would be small.
Yeah, get you one but then again have another small economy car as your daily driver.
