If you are wanting to actually reset your computer to like new you will have to reinstall Windows. You will lose everything that you have added on your computer. You will need to reinstall any programs that you use. All of your files will be gone. If all that you want to do is a little cleanup and refresh your system, there are several options. I use ccleaner and disk defragmenter. Ccleaner will clean your browsing history and cookies. It really is a sweet little program that only takes a minute to run. I have provided a link. Disk defragmenter takes a little more time but does not need to be run often. Maybe once a month. To use Disk Defragmenter go to Start,All Programs,Accessories,System Tools and click Disk Defragmenter. Select Defragment and let it run. If your system is heavily fragmented it will take about an hour or so to finish. Hope this is of some assistance.

U can use ur windows reload disk(s) (if you have any) or a recovery console u can select upon boot to restore factory settings. As far as spyware goes, try spybot search and destroy, and registry mechanic. They're pretty good. When u delete browser history, cookies, etc... All u loose is temporary info webpages set on ur pc, which can cause pop ups. Nothing serious if lost I would imagine. Go right ahead.

Depending on weather your computer is a brand name or a hand built, there are two different methods. If you own a brand name machine such as Dell, Gateway, etc, then just put the "Restore" disk in the CD drive and restart your machine. this will restore your computer back to factory fresh.

If this is a hand build, then put your XP disk in the CD drive and restart your computer. This will reinstall XP and make your system new again.

In either case, all personal data will be lost.

Cookies are safe to delete so are all temporary internet files, but be prepared to lose links etc, if you don't want to lose them back them up and always use Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ ), IE is the worst invention known to man!

Try the spybot and destroy tool and follow the instructions. It works most of the time .
