I tried subtracting the 2 from both sides but that really doesn't work, even if I switch the x on either side at the last step. I don't think subtracting the fraction from both sides would work...but I guess it could. I would appreciate if someone demonstrated the steps. The answer is actually just a simple positive number. Thanks!

transfer 1/4 x to the left to get

1/2x - 1/4x = 2
or 1/4x = 2
multiply by 4 on both sides to get x = 8

the basic is to take x terms to one side and constant to another then simplify

Subtract the 1/4x from both sides. that gives 1/4x = 2. Then multiply through by 4 to get. x = 8.

the respond is seventy two. to remedy this, right here is your equation: a million) 2/3x+6=a million/2x+a million/4x First, combine like words. a million/2x and a million/4x are like words, as an occasion. upload them. 2) 2/3x+6-2/3x=3/4x-2/3x 2d, all your x's would desire to be on one area, so subtract 2/3x from the two sides. 3) 6/a million/12=a million/12/a million/12x And final, you divide the two sides by applying a million/12 ( because of the fact branch is the different of multiplication) 4) x=seventy two

multiply the equation with the common number 4
(1/2x=1/4x+2) x4
2x = x +8
x = 8

or
1/2x=1/4x+2
(1/2 - 1/4)x = 2
1/4x = 2
x = 8

gudluck..

1/2x - 1/4 x = 2
1/4 x = 2
therefore x = 2*4 = 8

The first thing you want to do is to move the x to the numerator. (I'm assuming that this is 1/(2x) not (1/2) * x.)
To do this, you multiply both sides by 4x.

Once you've done this, you get: 2=1+8x

Now, subtract 1 from both sides and you get:

8x=1

Divide by 8 on both sides, and you get x=1/8

Put all the terms with x on one side so you get:

1/2x - 1/4x = 2

So:

2/4x - 1/4x = 2

So:

1/4x = 2

So:

1/4 = 2x

So:

x = 1/8

Thats what I make it.

However you need to type the question properly because:

(1/4)x is not the same as 1/4x

OK ...lets see if this works out
1/2x=1/4x+2

1/2x-1/4x=+2

1/2x(1/1-1/2)=2

1/2x * 1/2 = 2

1/2 = 4x

x = 1/2*1/4

x= 1/8

x = +0.125

If you mean:

1/2x=1/(4x+2)

2x = 4x + 2

2x = -2

x = -1

If you mean:

(1/2)x=(1/4)x+2

(1/4)x = 2

x = 8
