I am looking at Apple Valley and the area around. Need to be not too far from the airport.

I depends on how far out you want to go and which direction (West, Southwest or Northwest).

I have been in Hopkins for the past 10+ years but I am know looking out in Eden Prairie.

I have always joked that Minnepolis/St. Paul is the land of 10,000 suburbs.

Farmington is like Eden Prairie was ten years ago. Now Eden Prairie is HUGE and is home to many Vikings football players...very rich community. I used to live in Eden Prairie but when I was a freshman in high school, my parents moved to Farmington so that they could build a larger home and have a bigger yard (as prices are better). You should check it out.

Farmington is about a half an hour away from Minneapolis and St. Paul, about 15 minutes away from Apple Valley and Northfield. The Burnsville Center is about twenty minutes away.

The schools are good. I only went to the high school, which is moving into a new location (brand new building construction for more space).

Most of the stores you would need (Grocery, Starbucks, Caribou Coffee, Checker Auto, Blockbuster, an AMAZING pizzeria (Reno's), Dakota Technical College, etc., etc.) are all about 10-15 minutes away. There are, of course smaller grocery stores and necessities IN the actual town of Farmington, but as you can see-everything is within relative distance.

Oh, there is also a large skiing/snow boarding hill (Buck Hill) about 20 minutes away as well as a pretty nice Golf Coarse on HWY 3 in Farmington.
