I'm not buying gas today, cause I have a full tank of gas. I put gas in my car Sunday. Not cause of the e-mail but b/c that is when I fill up my tank for the week.

Please pass this on to anyone you know who receives these kinds of emails:

Emails such as these are a bad joke because there are some people who actually believe them and actually do avoid buying gas on the day outlined in the email.

Here's the truth: "Big Oil" actually only owns 15 to 25% of the gas stations in the US and Canada. The other 75 to 85% are owned by small independent business people, IE you're neighbors who are just trying to make an honest living.

Big Oil doesn't care whether you buy gas on a certain day, or not. They have already sold the gas to the independent guy on the corner, they already have their money.

Did you know that independent gasoline retailers make as little as 4 cents per gallon on the gas the sell?
Now you know why they have to charge $2 for that needed can of soup on Thanksgiving day!

Worse yet the poor guy paid the going rate on the day he bought his load of gas. So if he buys 50,000 gallons on Monday at a price of $3.00/gal then on Wednesday the competition drives the price down to $2.90, the independent guy loses 10 cents on every gallon he pumps plus his overhead costs such as electricity to get the gas from his tanks and into your car. Meanwhile, Big Oil laughs all the way to the bank.

There is only one way to beat Big Oil and that is through conservation. If everybody made just one less unnecessary
trip per week, and used just one gallon less than they do now, Big Oil would feel the pinch in a big way.

Major corporations have every right to make a decent profit, but I think that most of us feel that profits in excess of $40 billion per year are excessive. Call your congressman or woman and tell them to sponsor bills that tax the crap out of Big Oil's excessive profits. That's the only chance we have to beat the monster.

Good luck, and please pass this on.

The emails and bulletins that have been posted about not pumping gas on May 15th,is being countered by emails from an MSNBC,article saying it wont make a difference to the big oil execs wallets to boycott for one day. . .

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18492185/from/ET/

The whole point to this is totally being missed by that aricle and other like minded individuals. . .this is to show solidarity, and that we are very much aware of the high stakes game that is being played on "all" of us!!! We will never see $2.00 a gal gas again. When we see gas for 2.15 - 2.20 we are being conditioned to think, "WOW" gas is cheap. . . .that same senario will played out at 3.16 in the very near future or maybe change when a Democrat gets in the White House. . .and still that's not a garantee either. . . the point is to show these execs that we can unite to bring about change when something is not in the best interest of our people. Many movements through out history started with just a few, that became many, that spoke in "1" loud voice. . . .oh,and they will hear us and take notice, believe that! And maybe congress will hear us too. . . .

Did you get it at the same time as the email that says Bill Gates will pay you $5,000 if you forward the message to 10 friends?

Both are about as valid.

The whole gas boycott thing is a hoax based on another hoax which is well described at Snopes.com. Some people will probably do it because they don't know any better. The actual effect will be nil.

See the entry for this at Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp

I hate to piss in anyones Wheaties but this thing is a complete waste of time.

This is typical short-sighted glurge. Someone thinks that this will force oil companies to lower prices, if we only don't buy gas today. Guess what - it won't work. You either filled up yesterday, or you'll get gas in the next few days, and the net effect will be that people buy the same amount of gas over a period of a week or two.

If you want to lower your fuel costs, try one of these steps:

Get a more efficient car.
Carpool.
Ride your bike
walk
plan your trips to do more on one outing.
take public transportation.

In other words, use common sense instead of quick-fix, one-time approaches.

good question, but you know what, i got the email too. unfortunately, some people didnt get the email so there's not a really good point of boycotting these gas stations today. a lot of people gonna need to put gas on because they had to go to work.. we can't live without gas.. you know and i know that for a fact.
but i will not put on gas today.. i'll wait til tomorrow..

I won't be buying gas because I have enough, but it's impossible for a lot of people who need gas to get to work and make money for their family, etc. to not buy gas today..... even if they objected from buying gas today, they would eventually need to make up for it another day. It's just one of those things that people can't stop doing...... unless they walk, but that's not going to happen.

I'm not buying gas today..... if we all don't buy gas for one day they will be forced to lower the gas prices considerably, i don't know where you are but I'm in new york and the prices are ridiculous!
