Right now I am attending a community college. I am thinking about transerring to another community college out of state because there is a major that they offer that I would be intrested in. I was wondering if I where to get a student loan would the student loan cover me to get and apartment?

If you are going to transfer out of state to major is something in particular, you would be much better off transferring to a four year college with that major.

Much better off.

This depends on the type of loans you get and what your financial situation is. I'm assuming from your question that you are currently living with your parents? If so, you would still be considered a dependent student, and the amount of financial aid for which you would be eligible would depend upon what they decide your parents should be able to pay for. Also, know that if you are in state, there may be state loans for which you might be eligible that you wouldn't be eligible for in another state (and as an out-of-state student, you wouldn't be eligible for any loans in the new state for three years).

As far as a loan goes, it depends on where you are getting the loan from. I took both federal and private loans out to fund my "college-ing" and most of my federal loans required me to outsource the money directly for schooling purposes. SOme of my private loans were a little more forgiving as to how I spent them (paying for food, housing, etc.).

I defeinitely agree with Taranto about the 4 year college/university, as you have a higher chance of applying for financial aid and/or recieving grants/scholarships from the school.
