How can I fix this and how much will it cost me? It usually registers full when I fill up, but then is screwed up after that. Thanks in advance.

Your fuel level sensor is either bad or an intermittent break in the wire. Most likely the sensor though. It is in the tank with the sending unit, & I'm thinking this could be ordered as a separate unit from the sending unit. You could call around for the price as it is a dealer item as well as aftermarket.

Sending unit in the tank is probably bad--have to drop the tank or pull off the box to get at it and replace...check local shops for estimates on the repairs.
