I had bad colds with both of my kids. Being pregnant can reduce your immune system and make you more sesceptable. I would talk to your doctor before you take any medication (unless they already approved it for this stage in your pregnancy). Other than that, plenty of liquids and rest are what you need. Don't worry, you and the baby are fine. Hope you feel better soon!

It's quite common to get colds while pregnant. My doctor told me that my immune system backed off to allow the baby to grow. As a result, I have gotten 3 colds, the stomach flu and strep throat.
The hard part is getting through the cold without taking any cold medications. I found that Vicks Vapo-rub was really helpful, and also long steamy showers.

Very common, a stuffy nose is common throughout most of the pregnancy. Also due to your immune system being a bit lower. Take some extra vitamins and use a saline solution to keep the sinuses clear. Talk to your ob if you need some safe medications to take while prego.

It is as common as it was before you got pregnant. There is little to worry about. Pregnant women do have a heavier volume of fluids in their bodies, so your congestion might be especially bothersome, but you will recover. The baby will not be affected as long as you continue to eat right. Just make sure you clear any OTC cold remedies with your OB. He may also be able to suggest some homeopathic remedies that will work for you.

I had colds constantly during the beginning of my pregnancy. My doctor told me it's because at the beginning stages of pregnancy, the fetus is like a parasite, it takes everything you give your body, so you are left with a very low level of nutrients (that's why its so important to take pre-natals), so because of that your immune system is weaker. I stopped getting colds after about 10 weeks, but you may also find that you get bloody noses often because of the increase of blood flow in your body, so while you have this cold, try to use saline spray before blowing your nose and don't blow too hard because you may get a bloody nose.

I am 16 weeks and having the same issue!! I called my dr. and they said it is very common, they also gave me a list of "ok" otc medications but I have decided to suck it up and try to avoid taking anything. I've used Vicks Vaporub a little bit at night and prior to speaking with my dr. I had a couple of Riccola cough drops but now I'm feeling guilty just for taking those, so I threw them out and instead I am carrying around a box of tissues and loading up on the OJ and lots of water. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!!

It could be just coincidence, but my friends and I actually have a name for this phenomenon since all of us had colds early on in our pregnancy (for one of my friends this was actually her first clue that she might be pregnant).
If it's just a cold, don't worry about the baby. Be sure to call your doctor though to find out what you can take for it. You cannot take anything with ibuprofen (Acetaminophen is ok though) or pseudoephedrine (Sudafed). Afrin can be used for nasal congestion but I don't recall being able to take anything else. Just as much water and rest as I could get.
