I was watching BBC 1 yestedray and Panarama were doing an investigation into it and the guy representing the Scientology "Church" was completely psychotic - he reminded me of a character from a Tarantino film. Apparently the Scientologists get really p!ssed if you refer to it as a cult - though it does resemble one - and they start hounding anyone that discredits their faith - maybe they'll start stalking me?

People can believe whatever they want - I'm atheist so I don't follow any religion - but Scientology is plain strange.

I can understand that people have the right to believe whatever they want - but I found the aggressive and defensive nature of the Scientolists very odd - as though they had something to hide. Also they didn't really allow any personal views to be expressed by their own followers (i.e. the celebs on the show ). There is control in most religions but this seemed very extreme and unsettling. The nature of the religious practice is copyrighted so that it is illegal to publish anything about how they worship etc. This is very strange - surely religion shouldn't be so secretive?

I always thought it was strange also. Its like some weird celebrity religion that if you take the time and read or try to understand it it doesn't make any sense. It was made up by a science fiction writer how can anyone believe that stuff. I could see if it was another type of writer but science fiction.

I was watching the News on CNN and it was talking about what happened on BBC. It was so strange to hear even a little of what the Scientologists believe and do. I guess it is because their leader wrote fiction books and obviously was interested in fantasy and confusion. Oh well, I have to agree, they're beliefs do seem very strange to me, but I feel that atheism is strange too. I guess anything that is different from an individual seems strange. What you think to yourself seems logical to you, but when you stand up for what you think, people don't always see it as rational thinking, would you agree? Anyway, I hope you don't take any offense by this, but God bless.

What is really weird is the fact that at the time of answering this question : No one has from this "CULT" {Who have the audacity to incorrectly title themselves as a "Church"} has actually replied in defence of the "Scientology Brain-Washing Cult" !

If II had to make the choice between living next door to a follower of the "Scientology Cult" or a "Satanist" I would choose the "Satanist"; At least then you would know exactly what the "Satanist's" views were at all times!!!

Well, it is a free country, and people can be as far out as they choose in what religion they follow (or don't follow), but I'm inclined to agree that Scientology kind of leaves me baffled,

These people seem to be even touchier about their beliefs than the most evangelical Christians I've known--really defensive--so I guess I wonder what they're defending, since they don't seem to give any real statement of WHAT they believe, or why.

As for being stalked by them, I'd put my mind to worrying about something more likely to happen to you--like getting lost in the Bermuda Triangle or being the victim of an alien abduction. :-)

I wated Panorama last night too. It is really strange. Followers of the ahem "not a cult" have to totally "disconnect" from all their family for good, so no communication whatsoever. I think it is really weird. There must be brainwashing involved as I dont actually see what they do or achieve, it seems totally pointless to me. I am also an athiest by the way, but each to their own.

Scientologists become brainwashed cult members. They behave like cult members, think like cult members, and do nearly everything that a typical cult member does. I encourage you to watch this video (it'll seem somewhat silly in it's presentation, but it's frightening accurate when it comes to describing exactly what constitutes "a cult")
