He was sitting at a table in the background talking to some woman. I noticed that too and thought that it must be one of those movie jokes they do from time to time, like making rude words briefly in smoke. So yeah, he was in it apart from when he speaks to his son later on.

i did not notice , but he was in the mirror as he normally appears to his son. was he at the funeral?
