If you know you're going to want to make the same pattern in multiple sizes you can trace the pieces out onto other paper. I sometimes do it when I know I'm going to make the same size a large number of times just to keep the original pattern in good shape. I use tracing paper, tissue paper or even thin newsprint to make my traced pattern.

You can use the pattern more than once, I've been sewing for 35+ years. I draft some of my own patterns, but very often use commercial store bought patterns. Very often I use the pattern more than once. If it is a basic pattern that I know I will use again and again I will transfer the pattern to brown craft paper. If it is made out of fabric I can make it. you can see some of my work on my website.

I am about to retire the sewing machines except for the work I do for a couple of designers.
I will be happy to offer you any tips you may need.

If the pattern has more than one size then you might want to trace off the size that you need preserving the patterns other sizes..
But like everyone else I've used patterns several times. Just make sure you cut on the cutting line.
Good luck it's fun.

If you will be using the pattern many, many times, copy it on to thin muslin. Make sure you transfer on all the pertinent information. Go over your traced markings wit a permanent marker on the muslin. When this new pattern is made ( and the ink has dried), it can be used the same as a tissue one.

My sister makes her OWN patterns, or adapts them from existing ones. She always traces them onto butcher paper or even thin cardboard or oak tag, rather than cutting them. She really HAD to do this, since she made sheepskin coats, and would often stamp multiple pieces at once (using a machine) .Another thing I recall is that she tests the pattern on cheap muslin, before risking an expensive fabric. Hope that helped.

I have used some patterns many times without a problem. A pattern isn't ruined after a single use. Fold pattern pieces carefully after you use them and put them back in the envelope or in a Ziploc bag with the pattern envelope so you can see which pattern it is.

You can reuse a pattern as many times as you want. The only problem would be if you wanted to make a bigger size... But to make the same size or smaller you can keep using it until the paper disintegrates.
