You could go right to the source and find a decent set of tutorial books online. If you are looking for hard copy books, consider your local library. I would also suggest visiting your local bookstore and looking in the discount book section for slightly older editions of the Java 2 programming books. While not the latest edition, it will be current enough to teach you most of what you would need and you could pick up the new features either online or by purchasing a new edition after you have the basics covered.
