I'd leave it a while, and let them ponder!

Bail them out if it was the first time they had been arrested. Leave them to stew for a couple of hours if a second time. Tell them their on their own any time after that. I did this with my son and eventually he was sent to prison for a month. Now he has learnt his lesson and hasn't broken the law in the past 4 years.

if you leave it a while to teach them a lesson, dont punish them when they get home, have a real, adult, mature conversation, dont yell and scream and ridicule, it wont help, because it will not show "growing up" have a real converation, and point out to them all the downsides to paying money to the government that could have been used on a new car, or a video game system, or somthing that they're interested in or need that is better that donating to the government, BUT if you bail them out right away make them do chores for you and stuff, dont ground them, thats childish, which will induce more childish behavior, because its the example set for them, just give them more responsibilities than normal, and still have that mature grown up conversation, even if your kid is 20 or so, it doesnt matter, a good grown up convo is the best, even one every week or 2 could be good

I would bail them out and have serious words when they get out. I'm 35 now but when I was 14 I got arrested for shop lifting my dad had a extra special word with the constable and asked them to give me a caution but to come down hard on me. It scared the life out of me and I run If I see the police even now!! Like some one said above this all really depends on the crime and how serious it is!

I think it would depend on the cirumstances, the crime, how many times they had done it. I think at the moment i would bail them out but they would get a good pep talk and possibly counseling or professional help or some kind of support to ensure it did not happen again.

Leave them to teach them a lesson...otherwise bailing them out reinforces their belief that there will always be someone to rescue them...and that won't always be the case as they go through life in their later years.

I would leave them in there for a day or two, just to teach them a lesson, OR if you want to be funny send them a cake with a nail file in it, haha cant beat the classics.

It depends on what they did to get them in jail, but most likely I would leave him in there to teach them a lesson

I definitely would bail them out immediately and let my own hands teach them a lesson.

Leave them a while to teach them a lesson and hopefully that way they would never ever do it again.
