We were once at a BBQ when this man started on his partner just in front of the house we were at, he had her pinned down with his knees just repeatedly thumping her, and he was a big guy! luckily the blokes at this BBQ ran to help and between them they got him off, someone had called the police already cos they were just coming around the corner as he tried to speed off in his van, they got him and arrested him, the ambulance were right behind them and they took the lady to hospital, but the worst thing about this attack was that their 5 year old son was there witnessing this too!! bless him, he ended up staying with us at the BBQ cos our friends knew the couple in question! That poor little boy had to see all this but that did nothing to stop his father battering his mum to near death! He was sentanced to 2 years!

You have to be careful in those circumstances sometimes. I was out with a really good friend of mine last year and he's a great guy - very protective of me. Anyway, we were outside a pub on our way home late at night and we saw this man throwing his girlfriend around - so my friend stepped in to stop the guy - which is the right thing to do. But the guy became really violent and they ended up having a big punch - luckily it didn't turn out to bad - but it could have been worse. Sometimes the girls start having a go at you for helping them out as well.
But it's not like you can just walk away from someone that's being hurt, is it?

When its blatant abuse like that I'd call the cops...at least then she'd have a way out of the situation..and you don't risk anything by doing so..
I have been in this situation too,my man was with me,,I approached the girl as my man kept his eye on the guy,I asked her if she needed a ride somewhere, which she did,so she left with us,the guy abusing her just stood there yelling crap at her as we left..We gave her a ride to her Moms house..she was safe...
I don't recommend women stepping in for fear of retaliation from the males, but sometimes you should get involved to save another persons life..

It's a bad situation, I got involved in one like this and ended up with the girl almost smacking me one. The best thing to do is to walk away and call the police, most couples don't appreciate involvement and you could get hurt.

Um, I was going to say intervene but then realised you could be putting yourself in danger too. So next time you see something like this, how about you call the police? sorry you had to see that, big hugs xx
