where can I find open source wifi hardware?

I was interested in how WLAN itself works... I was planning to do some work with this (as i fits perfectly along with my work).... I am not talking about software. Projects like openwrt and co are familiar - but my interest is the hardware....

I know plenty of open source software but hardware? What exactly are you looking to get.

If you mean where can you find hardware that will work with open source..
