I am finding that the smaller things that never bothered me before suddenly matter! I made my first ever service complaint the other day :-)

OMG yes!!!! For most when you're younger you're so busy with life and experiencing it that you're not so bothered by what seems insignificant. But as you get older the mist clears and you suddenly see people/services/the world for what it really is and then it becomes intolerable. You cant believe what people etc get away with and can do to you or yours and so begins the bugging thing. Everything just gets on your nerves, the inadequacies. And you could decide to just let it go, but it wouldnt be long before something hits that button and you're off. Like you did just recently making a complaint. And you should. If you are not happy go ahead, services/people etc have to improve when people complain.

Yes, definately.

I turned 30 in February and like you things that never used to bother me do now.

I've just come back from a holiday to Crete, i could have quite easliy killed the young 'you know whats' swearing and groping wach other and making a load of noise at 4 in the morning.

Hey ho - the joys of growing older!!

In certain areas, yes, and the one that bothered you also bothers me for some reason. I received coupons in the mail yesterday because I complained to P & G about a certain product. I'm just really tired of spending good money for lousy services and products.

Definately. I think it boils down to growing up, having some life experience under our belts, and no longer having the ability to be pushovers without an argument or a point of view.
Whereas when we were children, we'd just cry when the big bully kid pushed us over or called us a name and found it so much easier to forgive other peoples wrongdoings.
That's what I think anyway.

In some cases, I find that I am more likely to say my bit, but in others I feel it´s better just to shut up and grin and bear it before someone tells me to go into the old age home. So, I think that, with age, one becomes wiser. I also find myself making excuses for others, like "he´s still young and ignorant", and that helps to ease the intolerance of others.

The older you get the more knowledgeable about the ways of the world you become so you naturally become less tolerant of people who, in the words of the old school reports, "Could do better" ! ! !

Quite the opposite. I have learned to tolerate many things and blow things off. What you are talking about is standing up for yourself and getting good service. That is not intolerance. It is good business.

I think i have become more assertive as i have got older and am more able to state my opinion and so may be more likely to complain but this is due to confidence and not to patience. I tend to be more openminded than i used to be but i think life experience could make people more cynical and less likely to trust people.

Oh yeah. I'm well on my way to being a grumpy old man sitting on the porch yelling at kids to get off the lawn. Used to like music loud. Now, it needs to be loud just so I can hear it.
