People... have you heard of Botero? Lucian Freud? Antoni Tapies? Felix Arauz? Rick Amor? Jose Luis Cuevas? Ismail Acar? Damian Hirst? Paris Hilton? oh yeah... that name did ring you! of course! Dead to be Worth? Sorry but that is a very fool saying, popular but wrong.

We recall the stories of painters who died alone and poor, like Vincent Van Gogh, but a lot of painters made rich lifes, selling succesfully their paintings. I think it will be more than 90% of the painters who had a succesfull career and earned good money. But people use to know alot more about a Heir of an Hotel Emporium that of their own national or international painters that live along with you, in your own time!

Think about the people who ignored Van Gogh and watch him walk with his canvas poor and sick.

Sorry about this but every time I hear that thing of "You want your art be worthy, then die" thats a horrible popular thought.

Talent is a gift. Originally the word is a measure used by ancient greeks, and in a Parable (Matt. XXV 14-30.), Jesuschrist used it to symbolize the gifts that lord deposit on us. An artist is known by his styles, his techniques, his themes. His talent is the sume of all this concepts, is his luggage of skills and studies. But, the talent is innate with the artist, he has it when he begings to paint and it expands as he evolve in his work. Picasso was a talented painter when he began, and he died as a talented painter.
Is there a untalented artist? No. The diference between an Known and unknown artist are that the known artist work harder, is smart at selling art, keeps a "famous halo" around his persona and of course let all his talent free. There are no untalented artist, there are only "closed or hide talents" artist, their talents are buried just waiting for him to be released. Lord JC put it better in the parable, read it Matt. XXV 14-30.

And each one has to find the way to unleash them. Then you will be known by your talent, but don't expect to much fame frome the living people, as I have said before they are fool enough to ignore you until someone tells them that there was a great painter who died this morning. Is anything more unfair?

It seems to me, the best way is to die! Most artists are not well respected in their time and it is only in light of history that their true value comes through. Most of the Impressionists lived in poverty and their work was ridiculed. Other artists have scratched out a living only to have their paintings sell for millions of dollars a few decades after they have died.

In most cases, through copying other people's work to learn the techniques. In eras past artists were taken on as apprentices and worked on their master's work until they learned enough skill to work on their own. Try copying styles you like best and see which styles and techniques appeal to you and best demonstrate your inner talents.

hi, it really depends on your selling strategy and if you really are that good. if you've really got a passion for art, it will be easier, go to all the art exhibitions and also get to know other artists. never let n opportunity pass where you could met someone. also take your work to different art Galleries so people dint only see your work in one place.
