Only the Southern region has the twang. There's also a Bostonian accent, a New York accent, a Philly accent, not really sure about the west coast though.

No we definitely have regional accents.
New England people have a strained accent on their "r".
People from the Virginia area (east coast) have a sort of nasally "n".
Southerners have that horrible twang (some people think its cute)
Midwesterners have a sort of Swedish accent
Louisiana Cajuns have a french accent
Deep westerners have a long drawl like "riiiggghhht"
some Californians have somewhat of what we call a "surfers or valley girl" dialog and accent.
There are so many really, I can't list them all.

Think how many accents you'll get in a two hour drive from Central London. Welsh, Bristolian, Brummie, Norfolk, Cockney. Not so different in the US. I'll ignore the horrible twang comment.

Since there are so many threads on this board which start out "why are Americans so dumb?" it's these kinds of questions that make me want to ask "why are the British so dumb?" Then again, I would never be so stupid as to generalize, as I know better.
Yes, we have no accents and we all speak with that same "horrible twang" that you speak of, only because we know it pisses you off.

The twang comes from the south, and the far north has a whole different kind of accent. Us central USA'ers don't have an accent...hehe

Yes, we do have different accents. I live in CT, only a mile from RI, and I talk a lot differently from the Rhode Islanders. Massachusetts also has a distinct accent. Go down south to Georgia or Tennesee and they will talk way differently than northerners.

That "horrible twang" is a southern accent. There are many different regional accents in the United States, much like there are many different accents in England, and every other country.

It depends upon the region, but yes. If it's an older place, like New England, you're more likely to find an accent. But in newer regions, like Phoenix and such, you don't find accents so much.

They have different accents too! My mate at work is from Pennsylvania and was trying to explain the different accents to me the other day, but to be honest besides the New York way of speaking, all I could hear was 'Forrest Gump' accents lol! :D xx
