Love the movie but give me a break. Best film ever? Listen, films continue to get better and better. With film technology getting better and cheaper the industry is seeing greater competition. For the time period, yeah it was great. Every year there are 10 films better then the top 10 produced during the 60's 70's and 80's combined. Most people only see the 'blockbusters' though so they're not aware of how great films have become. If the Good the Bad and the Ugly was made today it would just be called the Bad and the Ugly. Better films? 'City of God', 'Hero with Jet Li', 'Forrest Gump', 'Shawshank Redemption', 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Pulp Fiction', ... A friend and I were talking about how do you define a great movie. My criteria is, if you were going out on a date and you wanted to impress your date and have your date know something about your 'likes', and your date never saw a single movie. What movie would you want her / him to see. If your answer is Good the Bad and the Ugly, so be it. It just would not make my top 100.

Clint Eastwood has made many great movies. The Good The Bad And The Ugly isn't one of his best. My favourite is (Unforgiven) He doesn't play the same kind of character as he does in his Spaghetti Westerns. It is far more measured performance with other great actors like Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman. A really great climax.

Genius. The close-ups and bizarre camera angles were awesome. Sergio Leone wanted Henry Fonda for "Once Upon a Time in the West" (great film) but Fonda wanted nothing to do with it until he spoke to Eli Wallach who told him what a genius director Leone was.

Try the first two of the triolgy: A Fist Full of Dollars, and For a Few Dollars More.

If you like that try High Plans Drifter and Hang'em High.

It's pretty good, one of my faves. But I like Trading Places, Caddyshack and Aliens just as much.
