Same reason that men can't;
Replace loo rolls
Squeeze the toothpaste tube from the bottom
Ask for directions
Put the loo seat down when they're finished
Re-fill ice cube trays
Find anything
Sit quietly as we park / drive etc.
Remember important dates
Call when they're going to be late
Accept that they're wrong all the time
.......................get the picture? lol xx

You know people on here should read the question and think about it before jumping on the sexist badwagon!

It is totally true that as an avergae, women cannot read maps as well as men. It's to do with the way our brains work.

When men are thinking about directions, they think about it as a map, looking down from above. Theorists say that it is a small trait left over from primeval man where the males hunted for food, and used to draw maps on the ground when planning how to trap animals.

When women think about directions, they work on visual landmarks and work out a route by markers.

Try it, if you ask a man how to get somewhere 9 times out of ten he'll say something like "follow the road up about 1/2 a mile, take the first left, then take the second right". A woman will nearly always say "head toward the pub, take go left at the shop and then go right at the monument".

Nothing sexist about it, just the way our minds work in different ways. Take a look, there's loads about it. It's exactly the same mindset as to why men like driving fast, women like jewelry, men want power, women want love, and other traits. It's inbuilt. Check out the book.....

sorry, i am 1 of them. I even have a very very poor sense of directions. One of my colleague also the same. But there is exception. i knew 1 lady from german, really fantastic. She know directions very well, even she is in Singapore.
Not all men have the good sense of direction. At least i knew 2 men who are not good. 1 always need his wife to help read the maps and decide where to turn. The other always turn a big round in order to get to a desination. So it is not true that women is no better than men. It is just most of the man drives and women don't.

I am a woman who can read a map. My husband of 30 years is clueless when it comes to maps. This ought to be something they teach in high school. The class could be called Common Sense Living. Included could be how to balance a checkbook, buy groceries, cook, sew on a button.....

Hey Sid...female responder here...

I realize that your question was tongue in cheek, but it has a grain of truth to it. While very patient in many aspects of our lives, women are not necessarily patient when it comes to the minutia...like maps or instructions. I used to say that if I was meant to read it, they would call it a WOManual...LOL.

No, actually it is not a trick and or a humorous question. It is a very valid question and I believe that it has alot to do with our wonderful mindsets. There is a book out there and I know I've read it called Why Can't Woman Read Maps. Have you heard of it?
It stated in that book why we cannot. It was a very informative book.

I know how to read a map and I do a pretty good job at it too.
When my family and I go out on road trips, my hubby drives and I read the map. Quite proud of myself, since alot of women that I know cannot.
And for the record, my husband doesn't need to ask for directions b/c he knows how to get around-he taught me how to read maps.

Meet me. I've navigated two road trips, and I memorized the capitals of every country in the world at the age of nine. I would be a cartographer if it didn't involve so much math.
