Within the next 5 years smoking will be as good as illegal.
And then the health nazis will start on drinking to get that banned in all public places as well(including pubs and clubs)

I know and accept many people dislike smoking. That is not the main point.

I can remember the anti smoking lobby starting the same way as the anti drinking mob now.

It's quite possible

I don't know whether it will be within 5 years but certainly within the next 20.
I can't see alcohol ever being banned though....this has been tried before in America and apparently more alcohol was consumed during the prohibition years than when it was legal!
Having said this.. the government in the UK makes an extortionate amount of money from Taxes paid by the smokers and drinkers so if they were to be banned then income tax would probably go up quite significantly.
I think everything should be made legal, including all drugs then the Gov could get involved and massive amounts of money could be created by people helping solve the problems this causes....just like the arms trade!

Well i dont know about the Nazi bit, but i do believe that drinking will eventually be banned on the road and it will only be allowed to be consumed in beer gardens, pubs and clubs. Not on the street.

Instead of a dealer goin around a club selling weed and pills, coke and sniff, they gonna be selling b&h, mayfair and Marlbough. Its a joke. ITs a total breach and infringment on human rights, and i gave up smoking 6 months ago, but i still think this smoking ban lark is a step way too far..

It probably will come true.....it's like taking a toy from a baby.....you give the child something to play with until they become reliant upon that distraction (like a parent giving their child a dummy to stop them from crying) and then taking it away because it's "bad" for them.

Like it wasn't known in the first place.....The high society just like to mess (insert a more forceful word here) with the working class.....the ones who make them what they become.....greedy little money grabbers....who can't even provide one person with a decent life.....

Nonetheless...it will be done....and we'll all have to quit....maybe we should start a petition to ban cars and start using bicycles....I'd have to smoke a pack of 30's every hour just to accumulate the amount of pollution sitting in an idling car for 5 minutes does.....but hey.....driving is not addictive, nor habit forming, so therefore not a problem right....? PLEASE....such is life...

We may as well live it!

By the way..smoking does kill...but so do the fumes from cars...AND the guy who's got one hand in your pocket and the other holding a gun to your head, cocked and ready to blow....your brains onto the nearest side road......reality people

Yes very likely - but then the government would lose all the money they make from cigarettes and alcohol. I wish all these "health Nazis" as you call them would get off their high horses and stop treating smokers like mass murderers. OK so smoking in public places will become against the law - fine - but they shouldn't carry on dictating to people what they can and can't do in their own lives - people are well aware of the risks of smoking involved - but they are perfectly capable of making up their own minds as to whether or not they wish to continue doing so.

Funny, cuz it's the govt that allows these co's to include one of the most addictive and harmful substances known to man with the tobacco, nicotine. But people should have more common sense then to continue smoking something that is just as addictive as crack, don't ya think.

Smokers need to stop making excuses for their addiction.

They should go after the cig co's to stop putting the nicotine in the cigs and that will stop a lot of people thinking that their right to smoke overpowers my right to breathe.

P.S. I worked in bars for years and right in the middle of my career the law baning smoking in bars and restaurants went into effect. It did NOT affect business whatsoever. The same people were there everyday, only they were stepping outside for a smoke rather then sitting inside.

I think anyone caught smoking in a public place should be made to eat all of their cigarettes. Second-hand smoke gave my Dad throat cancer.
And if you feel the need to start drinking in public you must have quite a sad life. Do you need to have a pint while you are doing your weekly shop in Tescos?
I seriously doubt that they could OR would ban drinking in pubs and clubs......

They tried banning drinking before in the 1920's, but that didn't work. So I don't think there'll be a drinking ban...maybe tougher rules. I'm already ticked off enough because I can barely smoke anywhere! They are really pushing my buttons!!

No. I don't think it may come true. There has to be a limit or a line drawn. Drinking is an activity shared all across the globe. Even in the bible, God's buddies (like Noah) did their bit for society and then got plastered. "They" can't take alcohol or beer away from us too. "They" don't even have our Guns Yet. WAIT!! That's an idea. If "they" come for our beer, we can use our guns on 'em!!! Have a smoke on me.

I work in a bar, there is a no smoking ban now all over and it is certainly bad for my bar business, yet the vending companies insist I keep a cigarette machine in the bar. It makes no sense.

I live in Canada, and you cannot smoke inside anywhere here....they even restrict in some places where you can smoke outside. They are talking about banning people from smoking in their own cars if their are children inside them. And I think it is about time, if you want to poison your own lungs, go ahead, but have consideration for others. And yes, I know everyone will give me a thumbs down, but I used to smoke myself, and LOVED smoking. But I choose life.....
