According to Archimedes's principal body will float on water only if it displaces the weight of water equal to its weight. so any body having definite volume will displace some water. hence if it is weighed then it will show less weight.

This is due to Buoyancy. A good way to derive Archie's principle is to consider the gravitation work W done on a submerged object as it sinks (don't forget potential energy *gain* of water as it sinks). Force (aka weight) is dW/dx.

water, being much densier than air, supports the weight of an object much better than air. this support is due to the denisty of the molecules and also "water bonding" due to the free electrons in a water molecule that tend to bond to another h2o molecule
