From experience I have come to the conclusion that New Year is just an excuse to go out and get drunk, and possibly do something you may later regret. What do you people think?

ok fair enough when you are older but as i am a teeneager it seems like that is the only thing to do is to have fun with friends but i suppose as you get older you may appreciate it a bit more and enjoy spending the time with you family. Personally I see the New Year through with my family and then go out on the town so i think i get the best of both worlds. :D

If you have had a particularly bad year, it is nice to look forward to better things next year.
It is a time to be with those you love, family and friends.
It is a time to remember those who are no longer with us.
It is a time of celebration that we are still alive to go forward to another year.
It is not just an excuse to go out and get drunk - just drink enough to relax and be merry.

Sometimes you are right, and from what I understand, christians dont celebrate new years....
New Years to most people I think is a brand new beginning. All the good intentions that they had during the year that past are now irrelevant and they can take a positive step forward to do things right in the year to come! Some people make resolutions to stop doing something bad, or start doing something good. Me.... I just stay thankful that I am here to celebrate another wonderful year with my family and friends, and yes, getting drunk is sometimes involved :) Cheers!

Way back, even before I was born, the new year was celebrated to end the old dark days of the winter solstice and bring the sun back to give us summer. Unless, of course it was to give thanks for the bountiful harvest and prepare all for the winter. It depended on when your tribe thought the year ended.
Now we celebrate the new year because everybody else does and it has become a tradition. After you reach a certain maturity, whether in years or mind, it becomes less of a time to get raucous and more of a time to try to stay awake to see midnight, kiss the spouse or partner and trundle off to bed.

most people view it that way, but I don't
I think it's a time to let go of the past , the old &
make a change for the better , out with the old & in
with the new as they say
take care
PS as for the 3rd answer I am a Christian & so is my family, we celebrate New Years we just don't
get drunk & make dopes of ourselves doing it, we
have a nice toast & wish eachother the best .

Your question opens the door to other holidays also. Why do we celebrate anything? I guess I'm a pessimist and don't really care about any of them.
However you may notice my questions for each promoting a Bizzare Holiday. That's just for fun and the premise of this forum. Most of them I don't even know what they are.
Peace out.

New Year signifies rebirth - a new beginning.
The day to forget the past and embrace the future!
So, if you need a few drinks to do that what's the harm? Yeah we need to make sure do don't do something stupid - but it's one of the few days we get to live a little!
