I am now single after being married for a number of years. When I was married, I missed the freedom of being single, of only having to take care of myself and worry about myself. I missed not having to answer to someone and the freedome of doing what I wanted to do.
Now that I am single, I miss having someone to share my day with. Someone who is in my life because he loves me and wants to see me happy.
It is a trade off, but I think your friends are just getting used to being married and all it includes. They are probably happy most of the time, but there are occasions where they would love to be single and have the freedom that goes along with it.

I think it is because that even though a person is overall very happy in a marriage, being married comes with a set of "rules." Most people don't like to follow the rules, and would prefer to do whatever they pleased. So while a person may miss the life of going out and flirting, meeting people, living "free," they realize those kinds of behaviors do not add up to a happy marriage.
This may be a lousy metaphor, but here it goes:
1. I love to eat fast food, but it is unhealthy.
2. I change to a healthier diet, and am now happier and healthier overall.
3. Even though it's bad for me, I still want a freakin' cheeseburger.
4. I don't eat a cheeseburger, because even though I really want one, in the end, I won't be happy.
5. But I could realllllly go for a cheeseburger.

I think the problem is that the grass always appears to be greener on the other side. When you are single, you think of how nice it must be to be married and devoted to someone. And when you're married you think of how fun and exciting the single life must be. Its all about what each individual wants and where they find happiness at.

Sometimes the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence. Especially if we are arguing with our spouses.
