Chain touch in the playground.

Acorn fights in the woods.

We had a catapult made of two steel bars and a car inner tube that needed three of us to operate and fired halfbricks!

I used to climb a tree from which I could see the Tyndale Monument over twenty miles away.

Grasshoppers in jamjars.

Demolishing the stone wall of a disused market garden stone by stone all summer.

Building a dam which waterlogged a wide area of land that was earmarked for housing. We liked to think we delayed the loss of that bit of our territory by a year or two!

Rope swings in the woods over the creek....giant snowball fights with the younger nieghborhood kids lining one side of the street and the older kids lining the other side and using ice in their snowballs to see how many of us little ones they could get to run home with bloody noses...aahhhh...good times:)

I think most of the simple pleasures were simply discovering the world outside your living room or bedroom.
