I just feel like my parents don't understand me and I feel like I am a huge dissapointment to them...Everytime I speak with them I get guilt...and It feels awful..I just think right now I would be best taking a step back and not having a relationship with them...hopefully one day we will be able to have a normal relationship...I hate to shut them out but I can't deal with them right now. It puts me over the edge...

Yes it's O.K. sooner or later you may decide that you want to be a part of their lives though!! Keep the communications open though

Well, at this point of my life I prefer not to and try to distance myself from them, from my parents that is. But I know it is unhealthy, you need some sort of communication. Later on in life you will feel a void and you are going to find yourself asking these questions "how about if I did have a relationship with my family ?" " I wonder how they are right now, do they care or think about me ?" Trust me, sooner or later you will need them.

Not really, if you can help it. Sooner or later in life, we need our families. Unfortunately some families would not be there anyway. If you have a pretty good family, try to maintain some sort of communication with them. After all you may need a kidney one day!!! lol

Man, its never okay, just when you think of deserting them, that is the most time you need them, remember they are ur blood and flesh and so they are you.
If things doesn't work well with you guys, take a positive break and try to mend it back. ASAP
They need you so you need them.

No it really isn't, my mother kicked me out at 15 and our relationship has withered from there. I hadn't heard from her in just over 7 months and this is the only reply I got after sending her mothers day card:
Rick,

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Hope all is well with you also. We are fine.

Thanks.

Love,
Mom

YES, it's ok !! I don't associate with my father's side of the family what so ever. I can't stand them. My brother can't either & so he doesn't bother with them either. In life you find people who are either toxic to be around & therefore shouldn't be around them, or people who you just don't like or get along with & so you don't associate with them. If they happen to be family members, then so be it. Just because they are family, doesn't mean you HAVE to be around them.

it can or cannot be ok... or healthy, it depends on your family, if you think they cant provide something to your life..like advice, love, caring, nurturing then its ok if you feel among strangers,
but be thoughtful, maybe they also need you, so if you feel like it you can start a meaningful conversation and learn their troubles and cares...maybe you canchange this about your family..good luck
