I purchased my car back in 97 and I have had it ever since then and it has never given me any serious problems. Even in the beginning I noticed that whenever I parked on an incline whenever I would shift from park to reverse it would seem that I had to "cram it" into place. Like I said the car has never given me any problems, but I have always noticed that I have commented it a few times to the mechanics, but they say it is nothing. I would like to know if any transmission expert could tell why that is. Is it something normal in Honda transmissions? Thank you

It is an automatic. I have changed the transmission fluid a couple of times and I noticed it got a little better, but it still felt as though I had to "cram it" into place as if it had to go against the whole weight of the car.

The reason it feels as though you have the whole weight of the car to fight against is because you do. The mechanism inside the transmission that prevents the car from rolling backwards or forwards when it is put into P is called a "parking pawl". It is essentially a lock-out. When you are on an incline and the car is put into park, the pawl engages. as you take your foot off of the brake the car actually rolls a bit backwards until the pawl locks into place. Since you can't unload the pawl without moving the car forward and you can't move the car forward without putting the transmission into gear you are fighting against the weight of the car to move the lever into reverse. It is 'normal' and you don't need to worry about it.

If it has gotten worse over time, you may want to have the adjustment of the shift cable checked and readjusted if necessary as the cable will stretch over time, but if it only happens when parked on an incline I wouldn't be concerned.
hope that answers your question

Is this auto or manual? Try a transmission fluid change. You shouldn't worry till the light indicator kicks on.
