Can't think of any snags. You look at the cars available; some have 1 advance payment, some are completely free. You can decide whether you want to use all of your mobility rate or just some of it. Again that also depends on the car you choose.
Once you collect your car you get 3 years insurance cover, roadside assistance. Your car tax is free and sent through the post yearly. The only thing you pay for is petrol.
If you keep your car in good condition you may get a refund at the end of the 3 year period.
You can ask at any car showroom that is on the Motability Scheme. In my experience the people have always been very helpful. The transfer runs smoothly and I have always been treated with courtesy and respect.
Just make sure, if your DLA is due for renewal that you contact the DWP in plenty of time.
The scheme has certainly improved my quality of life. If you decide to go for it I wish you happy motoring.
Oh, you are allowed something like 15,000 miles a year before you pay mileage. We use the car to go all over the place and haven't done that much.
Any specific questions you have please feel free to e-mail me.

Well it's what suits you.I have owned cars for many years, some of which were second hand and a couple that were new.Unfotrtunately my wife suffered a stroke a few years ago which has left her partly disabled and in receipt of Disability living allowance with the highest rate of benefit in relation to her mobility. Our car at this time we had bought as new and we were very satisfied with it but my wife now needed a wheelchair when we went shopping etc.The car we had was a bit small in the boot to accomodate the folded wheelchair. We decided we needed a new car and as her DLA benefit qualified her to be able to apply for a motability vehicle we decided to look into this scheme. We went to a main dealer who operated the system and they took us through the way the system worked. You have a wide range of choice of vehicles some of which the lease would be entirely covered by the DLA payment, others would need a premium payment at the commencement to cover the higher cost of the model selected. We chose a medium sized estate car that gave us the space we required. It cost about a £1000 as a premium because it was a dearer model but as we got a trade in for our old car which more than covererd this we were happy. It took about 6 weeks for the new car to be available. The cars are made to your specification and colour. The lease is for three years and you sign over your monthly DLA mobility payment to them for the 3 years. You keep the care part of your DLA.It works out a bit expensive for the lease but bear in mind that it includes insurance for 3 years, road tax,all servicing and repairs,MOT when needed, full RAC membership so at the end of the day all you have to pay for is the petrol. You are liable for any damage to the car, apart from allowable wear and tear, which you must pay for separatelly. The car is inspected annually for this to be checked At the end of the three years you can select a new car and carry on the same . You can if you wish purchase the car for an agreed price but you would then be responsible for insurance, tax, servicing etc.We personally like the scheme as we feel that although it costs a bit it takes away a lot of the worries of having a car.You have always got a new or nearly new vehicle so that you have got reliability with good performance. We would endorse the Motability scheme but each individual must make up their own mind.
