Every chicken started out as an egg, but every egg doesn't become a chicken. The egg came first. All birds come from eggs. Reptiles and frogs come from eggs.
Even human "eggs" and subsequent embryos begin developing in the same way. From egg and sperm. Mutations that cause new species to arise would happen in the egg/sperm combination, thus, the egg/sperm that produced the first chicken was in some mutated way different than its parents.

well if you believe in the genesis account then the chicken would have been created first and given the ability to multiply according to it's kind. but even if you follow evolutionary means it would seem that an organism would keep evolving up not evolve into an egg and then be born.
