Not really, Id rather live in the US and pay $3 a gallon than live in Indonesia, make $500 per year and pay 50c per gallon.
Im sure that if you looked at the cost of gas as compared to average income, it is probably similiar to the US. Therefore you would pay the same, its relative.

Indonesia is an oil exporting country - Such countries generally have cheap fuel available for their people - particularly when the average citizen doesn't have much money.
The U.S. has the cheapest gasoline of any large oil importing country. - About $3.50 per gallon compared to $6.00 to $7.00 per gallon in most countries in western Europe.
In the U.S., the price of gasoline is kept artificially low, by not passing all the costs of getting oil to the U.S. on to gasoline users - While gas in the U.S. is taxed to pay for roads, the cost of maintaining military bases in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and the 400 billion dollar war in Iraq, which many people believe have more than a little to do with insuring that American consumers have a reliable long term source of oil, are financed primarily with borrowed money along with some income taxes on U.S. taxpayers generally, rather than being passed on directly to consumers in the form of a tax on gas.

Does it bother you that fuel in the UK is $7.60 a gallon?
The US has some of the cheapest fuel in the world, certainly in the developed world.

They chose to use their oil money to subsidize gas prices, we on the other hand chose to use it to subsidize Georg w Bush and Alaskans.
