Take a look at the Mrs. Dash line of prepared mixed spices, all of which lack salt. The original is pepper based and is very nice on mixed and sauteed vegetables such as summer squash, carrots and sweet potatoes.

I highly recommend Mrs. Dash. Someone also recommended herbs, which is another great substitute. But don't use salt substitute such as potassium salt- it may help with the taste, but it damages the liver, kidneys, and to the extend- the urinary system- when used in excess.
Another great item to use is garlic salt. At first it will be hard to try and cut out the salt usage, but after a few weeks it will be easier for your sister. I developed acute hypertension during fall of last year due to a lot of stress and a medication that I had taken. My dietician put me on the DASH diet and recommended all the things I mentioned above. While I was on the dash diet, I was only allowed 1900mg of salt (around 1 teaspoon per day), but then I cut salt usage and substitutes altogether when it came to preparing my meals. It's been months now and my last check up ( 2 months ago), I was out of the hypertension zone and my bp went back to normal (and not to mention the weight lost too). Tell her to keep it up and encourage/support her too.

Nothing really replaces salt. Tell your sister to just stop using it! She will be surprised how quickly her taste adjusts. She will also discover lots of subtle flavours that were masked by too much salt.
I stopped adding salt during and after cooking several years ago. This had a dramatic effect on my blood pressure and now I don't miss salt at all.
If it seems to hard at first, she could try eating more spicy foods such as Indian or Mexican dishes, or just adding more pepper and herbs to other recipes.

My sister substitutes with lemon juice. It does not taste like salt, but it adds and enhances flavour. You can safely get rid of all added salt, as there is adequate salt in food already. Do not use potassium salt as a substitute. Raised potassium can damage your kidneys, heart etc. It is best just to get used to going without. It won't take long.

You can get a salt of Potassium instead.

Well i dont think she shodul quit salt altogtehr. there is speicla salt for blood preasre patinets my motehr uses and it tatses teh same only with less sodium which is teh wroset to them and its way more expensive than kosher salt. however, lemon and vinegar helps a lil to reduce teh amount of slat . let her drink as much waster as she coudl that woudl drain the excessive salt in her food natuarlly and woudl releive her heart. boiled potatoes absobs excessive salt in the body so make sit part of her food.
