They will see an image on the ultrasound screen...the technician will try to position the ultrasound wand where she/he can see between the baby's legs.
if it's a boy you will most likely see something that looks like a little "turtle" the scrotum and penis. (it looks like a turtle shell and head, lol)
if it's a girl, the 'turtle' will not be present and they will see a round mound sectioned in the middle, being the labia.

Firstly congratulations, by week 15 the baby's genitals are developed and there is a possibility that it can be seen by ultrasound, but remember its only a educated guess its not able to guarantee you the correct sex. They normally give you the option if you want to find out at your routine scan during 18-20 weeks. The older the pregnancy the better view, but you can't always tell as the baby needs to be sitting in the right spot to have a nice clean view. My experiences are with my son I was told at 18 weeks it was a boy and it was correct, with my daughter I was told at 20 weeks it was a girl and she was. This time I was told it is a girl, but I think its a boy. Going by the ring test its a boy and that has also been right every time. My sister in-law was told she was having a boy, the ring test said it was a girl and she had a girl. Good luck and best wishes.

The ultrasound shows sex pretty much the way the newborn baby does. Boys have a penis and testicles and girls don't.
Need I say more? Ultrasound tests aren't 100 percent accurate. There is about a 15 percent chance for error. The penis might not be obvious, and the tech might think it's a girl when it isn't.
The tech will say whether he or she thinks it's a boy or girl and that isn't very complicated.
Hey, in the old days we just found out when the baby was born, so what's wrong with that? Why not be surprised?
Hope that answers your question. Good luck and happy parenting!

the only way to tell in ultrasound is if the baby is in the right position to see the male or female organs. so they may not be able to tell you and even if they do tell you it could be wrong. the only definite way to know is amino where they stick a big needle in her stomach and take out some of the fluid from around the baby but they wont do it just to find out the sex. and you cant see the chromosomes in an ultrasound

To determine the sex of the baby they check between the baby's legs, if the baby is in the right position they are usually able to tell but if the baby has it's legs crossed or is in an awkward position the sonographer may not be able to tell.

On an U/S they look for three little lines for a girl and the scrotum for the boy. If the baby is shy and you cannot tell, then the baby will be a surprise. No blood tests.

First of all their genitals are not organisms. They can't see a chromosome. If you want amniocentesis they will check the chromosomes, otherwise its the good old fashioned looking at the fetus to see what sex organs it has.
I cant' believe your wife doesn't know what it is, have you asked her what she thinks?

They have to see the babies sex parts.... boys are easy to tell if they will roll the right way.... but it has nothing to do with the x and y cromozomes.... If the baby isn't positioned clear.... they will not be able to tell.....

They told me by seeing my son's "part". If they can't see it, then they can't tell you. They never saw anything on my sister, and couldn't tell my mom the sex... but she said, she guessed it was a girl b/c after a hour of looking they would have seen that part if it was there.

If the baby is positioned right the tech. looks for a penis...... Its usually very clear @ 6 months of pregnancy. ... providing the baby is laying in just the right place..... and the picture should be very clear.
AND: CONGRATS !!!!!
