A day without buying gas would not even be felt by the oil companies, or by anyone else. Nobody cares if you fuel up the day before and the day after. It takes true conservation to make a statement, not targeting when to buy and when not to buy gas.
If you really wanted to stage something, you would need to get every American to cut 100% of their driving which was not absolutely necessary for a week. In other words, buy all of your groceries, etc. and only go to and from work. No other driving for any reason.
THAT would make a statement.

Nope. No one is saying not to drive on 15 May, just not to buy gas. If the companies are smart, they jacked up the price on the 14th.
What is everyone going to do if the oil companies raise prices on 16 May? Keep refusing to buy gas? Since there isn't a single car on the market that uses no gas and can drive on the highway, it's not likely.

Here is the problem, if we have a one-day boycott, everyone would fill-up on the day before or after, meaning the same consumption over a 3 day period. This wouldnt affect things.
A longer term would be good, but in order to do so, you must get a large portion of the country to alter their habits for a long period - very unlikely unless forced to do so by prices.

I saw a program on this last week......its a heck of a lot deeper than the gas we use for our cars. Did you know the commercial farming revolution in the 1950's was due to cheap petro fertilizers? Do you have any idea how that impacted farming world wide? I am all for more fuel efficient cars, but we can't afford them when they cost so much more than the old fashioned combustion engine.

a week without buying oil would force the oil companys to lower prices because it would cost them 2 billion dollars { yes 2 billion } as for the American people getting together to do this well May 15th { today } is the day all Americans are not sopposed to buy oil , I guess we will see .

i've cut back and i won't need to get gas tommorrow anyway. It's impossible to give up your car in the rural and suburban areas. You would need a new job close by. Europeans already pay more than we do, I think the oil companies are doing you a favor.

They raise for three months only to lower them for a month and make us all feel better about them, then they raise raise raise again. It is a pattern, and it sucks.
