Theoretically, a "half-truth" consists of one part lie and one part truth. Literally, is it not just a lie?

Theoretically, it is possibly to have a half truth but also theoretically a half truth is also a half lie. Is a half a hole a hole or 1/2 a hold. It is still a hole but half the size.

In court you are required to tell "The Truth", "The Whole Truth" and "Nothing but the truth". Here there is no room to move because a half truth is NOT "nothing but the truth".

In reality there are many times when we as adults consider lessening the impact by using half truths (half lies) thinking that we are doing the right thing for that particular situation but, the one thing that in reality you always do when you tell a half truth is actually to tell a lie. If your credability depends on truthfulness then anything short of "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth" is a lie.

well, i do sometimes think of this half-lie thing
in my philosophy:
i think the base for judging this is that the 'whole saying' of urs will be taken as 1
so, if the whole is a lie, then it is a complete lie
but if half of it is true and the other half a lie PROVIDED that the other half is not entirely connected to the first half---then it is a half-lie

a lie of ocurse is in itself a complete lie, except when u take the base (1) as the whole of what u said
because a lie is a property of the thing u said

I guess "half-truth" is not so bad. There are many situations when people need it. But it doesn't mean that you should live in lies. You shoul know when to stop telling "half-truths".

Maybe you should ask this in the politics section. Politicians, after all, are skilled experts at half-truths.

All truth is submerged in lies. All lies have a glimmer of truth.
